About Flute

The flute is a unique, beautiful and soft-sounding wind instrument from the family of wooden wind instruments. The flute is considered the graceful lady of the orchestra, whose voice is always melodic, performing subtlety complex solos and even compared to a bird song in perfection.

The world's first flutes date back over 35,000 years ago and were wind instruments made of bones. Like all other instruments, the flute has undergone its evolution and improvement, and today you can find several types of flutes.

Transverse flutes or also known as Western concert flute (flauto traverso) are transverse wooden wind instruments that are made of metal or wood. They are also the most common version of the flute.

Longitudinal flutes (block flute) are the older version and for years have been the mistresses of the performing arts with their characteristic soft and pleasant singing voice. Although quieter, they offer a lighter playing style.

The flute is originally one of the higher sounding musical instruments and the volume of the instrument is from small C/B tone to C/D of the fourth octave. Today you can find the following flute formats:

- Small flute or Piccolo - characteristically sharp, glassy-piercing tone, while in its low register it makes a quiet, pitiful and hoarse sound, its sounding octave is above that of the ordinary flute;

- Alto flute - soft, muffled, mysterious, with a volume a quarter lower;

- Bass, double bass and subcontrabass flutes - they turn the image of the flute upside down and offer low, diffuse, voluminous sound, huge in size and construction, they are more difficult to perform.

The flute has always attracted composers with its bright and clear sound. The focus of its music never escapes, and its admirers are a number of masters, including world-famous contemporaries such as Pierre-Henri Valad, Severino Gadzeloni, Sophie Sherie and others.

The flute is held at right angle to the side and the hands are placed successively left and right, simultaneously to hold the instrument, and to open and close the correct tone. The flute is divided into three parts: head, middle knee and lower knee, which are connected through joints. The length of the flutes varies from 70 cm to 2 meters.
